Information

Out of the blue in May 2025 my friend Stillvisions told me that he had purchased an inflatable Vulpix costume. Stillvisions is a big fan of inflatable costumes as he's been wearing a variety of both janky and well made inflatable costumes to different cons for the last several years. From t-rexs (before the dino inflatable craze took off) to Hello Kitty, he has a lot in his closet. So it wasn't totally surprising when he told me he had bought a high quality Vulpix costume. Vulpix is my favourite Pokemon and I own quite a few pieces of merch for the animal including a Vulpix costume cape, several plush toys and some necklaces. When he told me he was planning to bring Vulpix to YetiCon 2025, I was wondering if I could wear it for a bit for fun.

Stillvisions showed me the costume the day before the con started at our hotel at Blue Mountain. It was funny to see it inflated, but the costume was really well done and it turned out since I'm only 5'1, the costume worked well for me in terms of my height and being able to see out of the mesh eyes. The shoes, however, were a big challenge. The shoes have large foam pads to give the feet shape, but have smaller croc shoes inside to actually wear. The croc shoes were a few sizes too big for me, so I walked pretty precariously in them. I padded out the shoes by wearing some socks and thin slippers, but again, the feet were bulky so I did move very slowly and I was a bit floppy.

After wearing my Alice costume for a few hours on Saturday of YetiCon 2025, I asked about wearing Vulpix, so off I went with Stillvisions and another hotel roommate, Audrey, as they both helped me move around in the costume. I wore it on the path to the convention centre and then walked around the con space. I even took the elevator down to the vendor room level. I didn't wear the costume until around 5pm, so the con was fairly quiet at that point. The folks that were around were quite impressed and a lot of tourists outside liked bringing their kids to meet me for family photos. I even did a short video with Ackson for his con footage by the Anime car showcase outside.

I wore the costume for probably 45 or so minutes before the fan quit due to the battery running low. The costume unfortunately did deflate in front of some kids that were waiting to meet me, but what can you do? In the end, I had lots of fun wearing the costume. My struggles to move and small voice were apparently very entertaining to folks. I did plan to wear it a bit longer, but the battery had its limits. It was a blast to portray Vulpix. I have told my friend that there were very few inflatable costumes that I would want to wear, but Vulpix was on that list. Maybe I'll get a chance to wear the costume again in the future. It is nice to have an outfit where I don't have to worry about makeup or how my wig looks. It also wasn't too uncomfortable or hot in the costume, but maybe I just lucked out since the weather wasn't too hot. Anyway, I do hope that I can wear Vulpix again one day and I appreciate Stillvisions letting me borrow the costume for a bit.
