This costume was totally random. During the summer of 2023, I was scrolling through Instagram when a suggested post showcased a super cute Halloween Lolita looking costume. The design was so adorable with a big orange skirt and a really neat black blouse with cool coat tails. The costume screamed Halloween and I fell in love. I had no idea who the character was or if it was an original design. It turned out that it was from Cookie Run: Kingdom and the character is aptly named Pumpkin Pie Cookie. The costume was being advertised in advance of pre-orders from the costume company DokiDoki Cosplay. Once it was listed, I kept an eye on the site as only the costume was for sale in late summer. It was noted that a wig for the character would be sold later.

I kept an eye on the site until October when they finally put the wig up for sale and I purchased the wig, costume and hoop skirt for the dress at the same time. They all arrived after Halloween (not that I planned to wear it until 2024 anyway). The costume looked pretty cute, but there were some mystifying parts. The character appears to wear long black gloves so the maker decided to just make the sleeves gloves, so there is no way to take the gloves off unless you take the dress off. Also, they used a super flimsy invisible zipper at the back of the dress so it takes a team to force the zipper up at the waist where the skirt gathering and blouse are sewn together. Finally, the hoop skirt (that's sold as an extra for the dress) is pretty low quality. I figured as it was specially advertised as being for the dress that it would look nice, but it's pretty flimsy and is just two hoops with minimal fabric around them. The hoops show very clearly through the dress. I ended up ordering a petticoat from Aliexpress to use with the costume instead as I found the hoops to be very distracting looking. I actually had to order 2 petticoats from Aliexpress as the first one I ordered was a hoop skirt and even with more padding on the hoop skirt, the hoops still showed through the dress fairly obviously. The petticoat I bought in 2024 had great volume and looked nice.

I didn't trim the wig and left it natural as I wasn't sure I would keep the costume after an initial wear as I was worried about the costume fit with the tightness zipping it up. Hopefully I can wear it at least once more. The costume came with knee high socks, but I ended up buying tights from Hot Topic in a post-Halloween 2023 sale as I prefer to wear tights so I don't have to worry about the fabric falling. Of course, I immediately got a run in the tights when I wore them for the first time. The tights Pumpkin Pie is wearing are just orange and yellow stripes, but the ones I bought from Hot Topic also have a black stripe, but so I could have the comfort of tights, I didn't mind the inaccuracy. Really doesn't hurt that I've never played the game this costume is from. My interest in the design was purely because it has such a nice Halloween vibe and I'll probably never play the game Pumpkin Pie Cookie is from. lol I finished styling the costume with the mary jane shoes that I've previously used for my Card Captor Sakura Clear Card Arc school uniform and my Alice costume. I've been getting some great wear out of them.

My friend Kevin offered to do a shoot with me in April in a studio for whatever costume that I wanted photos of and although he was expecting me to wear Dorothy, I decided to wear this costume as I was concerned about the costume being a bit small for me and wanted to wear it then in case it didn't fit by the fall. He set up some spaces with lights and some Halloween props so we got a few really fun shots with spooky vibes. I brought a few props from home and the shoot was a lot of fun. I do hope to wear this costume once or twice more and hopefully to an event. Again, with the sleeves it's a bit hard to wear in public given that you have to undress basically to use the bathroom and with the zipper being so challenging to do up, it's a bit scary to hope that if I use the bathroom, I can get the dress zipped up again without it breaking. I may cut off the glove sleeves and wear gloves, but I'm still looking for a quality pair of gloves. I did attempt to order a pair from Aliexpress, but the seller sent me short gloves and I'm thinking opera gloves would overlap nicely on the arm to cover the edge of the sleeve once cut.

In the end, it's a really fun costume. I think it was worth the money and the quality is pretty good despite some baffling choices (like using such a flimsy zipper and making the sleeves gloves). It's a great costume to pose around Halloween decorations and hopefully I can wear it again for a fall shoot or event. It truly is a challenge for me to pass up on Cosplaying a Halloween inspired character even if I'm not familiar with the source material and I'm glad I took a chance with this costume.
