In June 2011 the designs for the alternate unlockable costumes for the primary playable characters in the then upcoming Mercenaries 3D game were revealed and I instantly fell in love with Rebecca's outfit. It's such a drastic change from the only outfit she wears in Resident Evil, as her whole role in 0 and RE1 take place over the course of a day. I love her S.T.A.R.S. uniform, but aside from her other unlockable outfits, there's nothing different for Rebecca. Her new design, a Lolita nurse dress, is just so different and cute. :3 I wanted to make this costume, but I honestly didn't feel like I had the energy or patterning skills to make it.

I kept the idea in the back of my mind and in August I approached my friend Ammie and asked her if I could maybe commission her to make the dress for me. She mentioned to me that she loves making Lolita dresses and was looking for opportunities to make more dresses so she was really eager to accept the commission and I was thrilled. I decided that I wanted the costume for Youmacon so she offered to bring the costume to the con so I could get it there.

I did have to track down and purchase boots. I found a pair on eBay from an Ontario seller. I ordered them in late September, but they had to be ordered from China and arrived just a day before I left for Youmacon in November. The slow shipping service really stressed me out, but the boots were super cute so I'm glad they arrived in time. There should be some details on the boots as well, but I decided to skip those details as it was kind of hard to track down a pair that worked well enough for the costume without purchasing super expensive Lolita boots. I wanted to keep the boots as they are so I can re-wear them with other costumes and outfits in the future.

I had a lot of fun wearing this costume. Ammie did an amazing job on it. She took some artistic liberties with it because there is only one large reference image of this outfit and it's from behind. It's pretty hard to see the details in the game, but Ammie did a great job coming up with solutions. You can see Rebecca has a black and pink heart on her hat and there's one also on her apron with writing so she decided to write Nurse Rebecca in Japanese characters around the heart. I'm so happy with the outfit! It's super poofy and very cute.

I don't believe anyone recognized me as Cosplaying Rebecca at Youmacon. The design is just too obscure since Mercenaries 3D didn't sell very well, but I had a lot of fun in this outfit. I did happen to wear the arm cuffs upside down at Youmacon as I forgot to consult with my reference image. XD I plan to re-wear this costume a few times and get more photos. I can't thank Ammie enough for her hard work. It's fun to treat myself every once and a while to an awesome costume from Ammie. She told me it only took her 2 days to make this costume. Her sewing skills are really something!
